Sprout
is a Canary Winged Bee Bee Parrot (part of the brotogeris parrots
from South America). He came to live with us in April, 1999. Sprout
speaks about 25 words including "hello," "good boy,"
"stop it," "come here," "NO! NO!" and
"what a good bird" and he also does a great laugh and a
variety of whistles. He picked us out at a parrot store on Long Island
and we instantly connected. He lays on his side in my hand and
"purrs" while I scratch his head. His favorite tricks include
laying on his back in your hand or on the table, he clicks his beak or
taps it on the desk as we type on the PC.
His favorite time of day includes taking a shower with whoever is taking
one at the time and when we have mashed potatoes at dinner... he grovels
them down on his own little plate like a bulldozer. He loves to creep
around and crawl into little hiding places. The red bag in the picture
is his velour sleeping bag which he actually crawls inside and lays his
head on the pillow.
What is so great about Sprout is that he loves people in general. Alex,
his nine year old "big sister" is his very best friend and the
two of them are together every moment of the day. He has his own little
shelf in a cabinet over the kitchen counter where he likes to comment
and chatter incessantly while you go about your business in the kitchen.
At night he loves to watch TV or take his bell ball and ring it loudly
so you will throw it and he will "Fetch" it. About 8:30pm he
likes to go in his cage where he says "wanna go nights" very
quietly and then he gets covered and he goes to sleep. Sprout joining
our lives with his loving personality and exuberant attitude has
brightened our days all that much more.
