About Us
Kiwi, the Pet of the Day
Name: Kiwi
Age: Two years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Hahn's Macaw
Home: Texas, USA

Kiwi was hatched on July 3, 1998 in Texas. Kiwi is a Hahn's Macaw. As the smallest macaw she weighs 128 - 132 grams and is 30 cm (12 inches) long whereas the largest Macaw, Hyacinth Macaw is about 40 inches long. She has teal blue feathers on the top of her head, red feathers on her shoulders and under her wings (we call this her "secret") and green feathers everywhere else. Hahn's macaws can live 25 - 30 years. One must make a commitment to own a parrot. The larger parrots can live upwards towards 80 to 100 years.

Kiwi came to live with us in May 1998. She was already saying "Hello". Her next words were "What's Up?" and then "Step Up". Kiwi has her own language and babbles a lot. She is learning english and can now say several phrases and words, including "Tickle Tickle", "Go Bye Bye", "Hello Kiwi", "Hello Carol", "Hi Kiwi", "Hi Carol", "Pretty Girl" and "Gimme' Kiss" (with a smack).
