Max's
full name is Maximum Birdfeathers and he's an amazing pet. He's
very gentle and sweet-natured although he's scared of anything new and
he doesn't like strangers. What makes him so great? He's been through
five homes in his short life and yet he still opened up to me after
some time and now he allows me to pet him, tickle him and hold him. He
begs for my attention and that's a big step for a neglected parrot. He
learned to eat veggies and a better diet than just the seeds he ate
for years. Apples and pea pods are favorites. I think he was passed
from home to home because people expect African Greys to have big
vocabularies and Max chose not to talk. I knew this before adopting
him and I promised to keep him forever, whether he spoke or not. He
now says 'Hi, 'lo (for hello), and Good Boy. I'm pleased that he feels
comfortable enough to talk to me but I don't think he's going to be a
big gabber. Do I care? Not a bit. I love him more than I ever thought
I could love a bird and I hope we'll be together for a good many years
