This is a tribute to one of the world's great cats, our Patty. Patty wandered into our yard and our hearts in the summer of 1984. She seemed to want to get into our house very badly. After a while we realized she wasn't a neighbor's cat so we advertised and started feeding her. One day she appeared at our door wet and bedraggled and we took her in for good. We had another cat at the time, Ella. Patty loved Ella - we have a lot of photos of the two of them snuggled up in the bay window and the big arm chair. When Ella passed on in 1989, we adopted another cat, Ginger. Then in 1990, we adopted Louis. In 1995, we took in another stray, Krissy. Patty was the leader of our little pride. She was always the first one to the door to meet us. She led us to the kitchen and we were not to do anything else before feeding the cats or she would follow us around and let us know of our terrible neglect. Our kids grew up with her, they were five and eight when she came to live with us. She had no meow, only a little croak. She was a small cat, but she looked like a miniature Maine Coon. She was a brave, friendly cat. Whenever little kids came to our house and wanted to play with the cats, we would let them see Patty. During the ice storm of 1998, we had no power for a week. Patty was the only one who wasn't freaked out. She took it in her stride and as long as we fed her, everything was OK. Her physical health was failing over the past three years and she was on medication, but her spirit never failed even in her last days. At the beginning of December, we started to believe that the impossible would happen and she would actually leave us. She died in my arms on December 9th. Our hearts are broken. She was with us for nineteen and a half years and it wasn't long enough. We will bury her ashes in the spring next to her special friend, Ella. Rest in peace, sweet girl.

What a beatiful tribute to a very special lady. The amount of time we have with our fur kids is NEVER long enough in my book. I truely wish we could keep them alive forever, but instead they live in our hearts and our memories and that is something that no one can take away from us. --- Meg

We miss our sweet girl. She was the lively one (even in her senior years) of our little group. I have nobody sitting on my chest and looking into my eyes every morning before I get out of bed :)

Our girl, Patty, was so funny. She loved peanut butter. One day I made myself a peanut butter sandwich for lunch. I put it in a plastic bag and went to look for my lunch bag. When I came back, Patty was running for the basement with my sandwich bag in her mouth.

Here is a photo of her after she licked a bowl with cake batter in it. You can see the batter sticking to her whiskers.
