Kiki's Paw
-sigh- if this holiday couldn't get any worse. I wish it was over already.
Kiara hurt her paw today while we were out on the island. It's sliced pretty nicely.
That foot is all swollen. I've cleaned it and put vet wrap on it. The swelling has gone down from it's original state but I'm worried about it becoming badly infected. Hopefully, keeping it clean and closed up, it will be able to heal fine.

poor girl!!....... letīs hope she heals fast......
you cleaned it and took care properly so I see no reason of it becoming infected.......
with what did she cut her pawsie?? were there foreign object in the cut??
-
Probably a rock in the water. I didn't see anything in the cut while cleaning it.
-
Ohhh Kiara!! Always worrying your mommy and us :( Unfortunately, our rule of thumb here with Giselle and her paper thin skin is that we don't go to the vet unless the cut is bigger than a nickel and/or her pads are cut. Those are so hard to heal :( Kiara, get better quick!!
-
Poor Ki! I hope it heals nicely. Sounds like you're doing everything right though, so I have no advice.
Tango is always doing something to her paws and they've been cut pretty badly before. She's never needed to go to the vet, so hopefully Kiki won't either.

I took some pictures earlier while wrapping it.
First picture is the swelling. It's her right paw (left one in the photo.) Second is of the worst cut, she has a few others but they aren't as bad. Third is of her all wrapped up but still happy.

Oh Ki.....be careful out there playing. Let your Mom clean it and keep it wrapped up. Heal fast Kiki Dee. :)
-
ow ow ow! did she hold still for the wrapping? mine would still be yelping
-
Poor Kiara! I hope it heals up quickly.

Josie did something similar once. She also did something to her nail once. She bled ALL over the kitchen floor. I got it to stop bleeding. Both times I left it. I think I might have got some cream from the vet to keep it clean or something but it healed nicely on it's own. I hope Ki's does the same!!
-
Awww, poor Kiki. I hope you feel better soon. Take advantage of the extra attention and loving you'll get. Although, I'm sure you all four already get LOTS of it!! :D
-
Iīm not sure but here we have this sort of powder that helps heal faster that type of injuries...........actuallu they are two: tepescohuite (not sure sp?) and sulfatiazol both help dry the wound and cicatrize (sp? :p) faster...... maybe you can find something similar.......... or ask what they use for spays I also have used these medications for that......maybe they can advice somethign similar
get well soon KIKI!!

Poor baby. What a bad place to get a cut. Hope this heals up soon with
no problems.

The swelling has gone down almost 100% this morning. Last night I had cleaned it and put this antibiotic stuff, similar to Neosporin, on it then wrapped it back up.
This morning I unwrapped it to look at it and it looks a bit less scary than yesterday. I cleaned it out with alcohol swabs and re-wrapped it. Need to remind myself to get some more vet wrap because we're all out.
She's such a good little girl when it comes to cleaning it. She just lays there. I know I would have been crying for the amount of blood, how deep it is, and putting alcohol on it. She doesn't mind the wrapping at all, she just runs around like normal.
The worst thing is going to be keeping her out of the pool. She's going to be miserable. I may let her for a few minutes later, since the swelling has gone down I'm not as worried as I was.

poor baby, Ki. :( I wouldn't let her into the pool since the chlorine might burn her paw. but if it isn't as bad this morning she probably could go for a short swim. :)
