I don't know if you remember me mentioning a while back a neighborhood dog, Luka, who was the sweetest dog. The stupid, idiot owners kept him outisde 24/7, 12 months a year. No shelter, nothing. They fed him table scraps. My sister-in-law and I donated a dog igloo, insulated it with hay and newspaper, and bought bags of dog food for this poor animal. He was tethered to a broken down car on a chain no longer than 18 inches.
I came home from work yesterday and the fire department was there. There was a fire in the basement that damaged the whole house. It's suspicious and under investigation.
I went down the back alley to check on Luka. He look awful!!! He had some sort of mange on his back end, and had no food or water. I got him a bowl of water when the owners came home. These low lifes (and I DO mean low lifes). I was holding a cat that was hers, worried about it. I had seen it roaming the yards looking for food (I was putting food out for him. She grabbed the cat from me and said "That's my baby!!! Give me my baby!!" I asked her about Luka. Her response was "I don't give a F what you do with that damn dog!!" I told her that he's been outside 24/7 and has no food or water. She said "That's what he is, a yard dog!!" I almost go into it with her, but simply told her I was taking Luka to the Humane Society to get the medical attention, food and water he so desperately needs. She didn't care. She just kept telling me the cat was her baby. Well, I went back to pick Luka up and the cat was roaming around, while the house was totally boarded up!!! If it was her damn baby, why the hell didn't she take him/her with her in the car when she left, instead of fending for herself!!!!!!! I also took the cat. I was not about to let that poor cat fend for itself when the temperatures were supposed to go down last night. I cried when I left. I wanted SO badly to take in the cat. But with my house full, there was just no way. As I walked out the door, poor Luka cried. I haven't stopped crying since then! I keep wondering if I did the right thing or not.
I pray that they both get the medical attention they need and homes they so desperately deserve!!
