    Question.........

    i was curious as to why german shepards are called german shepard DOGS ???

    I have wondered that too! Good question....
    don't breed or buy while shelter dogs die....

    That's easy - otherwise, they could be confused with citizens of Germany who happened to herd sheep for a living!

    I don't believe there is any rhyme or reason...TONS of breeds have names that end with "dog." Most people don't even realise that GSD ends in dog, since pretty much everyone just says German shepherd because it's easier.

    Yeah I have wondered that, too, but I still use the abbreviation GSD

    They were given the official name of German Shepherd Dog
    by the orginal breeders in Germany. They were used on the farms
    as herding dogs.

    thanks LIZBUD.....i have been wondering for the longest time...it's like some people say 'hamburger meat', well, hamburger IS meat....i just didn't want to come off like a smart a** ....anyway thanks....that's one post-it off the wall....i've got more....
