I have a pair of small cowbells hanging by an agility tag on my back door. This is how we taught our GSD to house train. It took litterely a day. The very next day after hooking the bells around our back door, Boone was ringing it with his nose. He still rings the bell to go outside and he's 4. Of course, he's a "boy who cried wolf" kind of dog, so he rings it if he wants to go out and play, not just go potty....so sometimes I have to tell him to quit ringing the bell because he's driving me a little nutty hehe.

I will always teach future dogs/puppies to ring the bell to go out. It's so cute and handy (except when they ring it over and over because they want nothing more then to go out and play ball hehe)

I have several dog friends who trained their pups with bells. Wonderful idea!

I tried to introduce them when I got Tasha, my puppy mill rescue. But, like so much in this great big new world, she was terrified of them. So I had to remove them.
