Thread: Score one for my rescue!!!!

Score one for my rescue!!!! UPDATE: The rescues are now here!!

As some of you know I run an exotic animal rescue called Bengal's and Buddies. Today I convinced a lady to surrender all her drawf hamsters and rats to me! So hopefully tomorrow she will bring them over, complete with babies and I will have quite a few new furry critters here. The hamsters are so tiny, black and white and also PEW's. I will be taking in some of her rats as well. This will give me a chance to handle the babies so that they can be tame. This has made my day!!! So I should have plenty of new rat and hamster pics tomorrow! This will put my pet count at around 100!

Well their here!!! They are mite infested and their cages are filthy. I have no idea how many adults and how many babies there are, but way too many for the cages they are in. I took a few pics of the one cage but need to take pics of the other cage as well, and then I can count how many there are when I clean the cages in a little while. One looks like it has a tumour and has scabs all over his face. I took a couple babies out and played with them for a little bit. One was soaking wet because the water bottle is leaking so I had to dry her/him off. They are so crowded. I also took in some rats. *sigh* Poor poor hamsters!!!! She didn't bring all her rats though just some. The others she sent away as feeders.

Although I do have all the hamsters here. They are in the bathroom and as soon as Dylan is done taking a bath (today's his birthday btw ) I can get the cages clean and count everyone and seperate the sexes...........once I learn how to sex these tiny things! I am sure all the girls are already pregnant.

    Happy birthday Dylan!

Poor little critters. I may not be a "hamster person", but I am glad those guys found you! They're much better off now. I can't wait to see them, the one you described to me sounds adorable!

    Thank you Wolf_Q!

    Here are the parents again:

There are four babies I think, thent he two parents in one cage. The other cage has about 7 hamsters in it, both male and female young adults.

One of the babies. Sooo cute!

Ok more pics. I counted the hammies from the other cage and I have six of them. Three are white and two are black and white, and one with black, white, grey and brown sort of like a merle dog lol. They are really cute. I got nipped a few times but it wasn't too bad. I put socks on at first to take them out and they seem to do much better out of the cage. Since they were so crowded I let them run around in the bathtub while I cleaned their cage. Of course I am already attached to these little buggers.

Ok more pics lol. I will stop blabbering. I am SO glad they are now living with me, in a clean cage, with fresh water and fresh food!

This one is of course my favorite, which is why I have so many pics of him.

    What a cute pic!

Cage pics. This is the cage that houses the smaller babies as well as the mom and dad. The water bottle was leaking so all the bedding was soaked and all the babies were soaking wet. I had to take them out and dry them off with a towel. Since the babies are so tiny I am cleaning the cage tomorrow, so as to not stress them too much, and to avoid the mom eating them.

Here you can see how many poopies there was in the cage.

Some of the rat boys. Four of them.

And yes this was their PERMANENT cage.......... There are two Russian Blue velveteen dumbos, one dumbo beige, and one dumbo seal point siamese.

Poor little guys. I'm sure they'll be fine now, since you have them.

I am not sure if this is the mom or the dad.......but cute!

This is before I cleaned the one cage. There was so much bedding they couldn't use their wheel, and it seemed as if new bedding was piled over old bedding.

    One of the albinos.

All the teenagers in a Kritter Keeper while I put their cage together.........easy to count how many there are.

    And finally, a clean cage!!!

They are so happy now. They are running on their wheel like mad, making nests out of the toilet paper I gave them, and just having a good ol time spelling fresh air!

Of course. They were moved into a SuperPet cage with plenty of room. I will make sure to give them all a kiss for you.

Arrrr, they are all so cute.
I love little Rodents (rats too).
    What was their bedding before?
It looks odd (maybe because it was dirty?)
I love cleaning the cages and making it all fresh, then watching them make their nests etc!
I know you said your a rescue, but are you gunna keep some?

I am actually going to keep one of the babies. I can't help it lol.

As far as their bedding, it's like Carefresh but darker........not sure exactly what it is.
