Nail Cutting

Hi! I would like to ask for suggestions on how to cut the nails of my dog. My dog, Beethoven, hates having people cutting her nails....and would even show her teeth (anger I assumed), upon seeing the cutter. Any suggestions???

mmm....cutting a dog's nails, huh? I just started using this great new tool to sand the nails down. I have a boxer boy and he doesn't mind the tool at all. It's a Dremmel but Black & Decker makes one too called the Wizard. You put the sanding tool on it and sand the nails down.

To get him used to it. I just turned it on and let him sniff it (with no sanding tool on it.) After that I'd run it down his legs and let it sit on his nails until he stopped pulling away. It takes me about 15 minutes to do it and his nails look wonderful.

What a great idea! I have two Doberman's that hate to have their nails cut and that would be a way to get them down without putting them through the "torture".

We cut the nails of 3 Labs every second weekend. With the oldest one it has *always* been a pain in the you know where to cut her nails. Now as she is older we have found out she has slightly misformed paws and has arthritis in them. But, because of her, we always cut the dogs' nails with them on their backs, paws up in the air, and while one person is holding them steady, the other person cuts their nails. The younger 2 don't mind this position. I think it establishes your dominance over them too, with them in this submissive position. This may we worth a try if you're having a lot of trouble cutting their nails.
