We watch it - I haven't read the book series, so I like the tv show, as I had no preconceived notions!

Yep, hubby and I watch it. My MIL has the books so I need to get them from her and read them. During the time that it is on I am transfixed on the TV and my hubby can tell you that I have a very short attention span for TV. This show is different though, very intriguing.

I'd like to watch it, but I don't get HBO. My aunt's going to send me the books when she's done reading them.

Hmmm never thought of that, but I do think he's the one killing the girls for some reason.

I know what Sam is. MIL has the books. Perhaps last night's episode shined some light on him.....

My sister in law watches it, and I have several friends who love it. I overheard it once and it sounded like a bad porn/horror show, and that has put such a bad taste in my mouth that I don't have any interest in seeing it. I caught a glimpse of a really "intimate" moment one other time, and that sealed the deal for me. I like sex scenes, but ones that leave more to the imagination or are more sensual. If I wanna see porn, I'll just watch porn.

With all that being said, though, I'm sure I would enjoy the books and I'd probably like the show if I sat down and watched it from the first episode, all the way through. But, I don't need to add any more tv to my life! It's bad enough when I accidentally find a show I love, which is what happened with The Vampire Diaries.

I love that series. I read the book series, except for the last one. The HBO series is BASED on the books... not straight from them.. so there are differences, like additional characters, which was odd at first. For me, it has more of what I wanted from the main character roles than Twilight. Don't get me wrong, I Twilight, I just wanted it to be more grown up some times. I've read lots of vampire lit and sometimes expected more. So True Blood/Stackhouse Series provides more of the physical side of Bill and Sookie's relationship, which I rather liked!

Since it's on HBO, it is rather explicit, but I didnt feel like I was ever watching porn.. Nothing like Rome, for instance. Yikes. My mom loved that series, but there was just no way I could watch it.

Yeah, I expected explicit. I wasn't shocked, mind you, and I'm a very open minded person. Not shy in the slightest. Sex/love scenes in shows and movies, for some reason, just appeal to me more if they're not as graphic. I know it's not porn, which I'm fine with, it's just a little much for what I want to see in a show. I've never heard of Rome, but I can only imagine.

    Spoiler

So . . . long story short of how I came to be a fan of the show . . . I made a deal with a friend to watch the first season of True Blood, as long as they watched the one and only season of Firefly (a MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better show, in every sense, and it became their favorite show ever, too!).

Having said that, though, David and I have become fans of True Blood, watching an episode a night on DVD until we finished the second season, just in time to catch the reruns of the third season on HBO. When the fourth season started fresh, we were all caught up.

The fourth season just finished on Sunday, and MAN! KAPOW! What a finale! This show is absolutely ridiculous, but every episode is SUCH a cliffhanger, we always want to see what craziness happens in the next episode! I'm not nearly as attached to the characters as I was (and still am) with those in Firefly, but I do have favorites.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS - I really didn't like Sookie and Bill together, but was really drawn to Sookie and Eric. Lafayette and Jesus are my other favorite pair, their chemistry is incredible. I think Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette) is the best actor on the show.

I knew that last death in the finale was coming, I just had a feeling and had even voiced that opinion to David at the beginning of the episode. But, I really didn't see it coming when Sookie shot that other character in the face like she did. WOWZERS.

And, I LOVE Jason Stackhouse. Not sure I like his new relationship, though. Although, I really like Jessica.

Super crazy about Rene popping up like that, and I hope Terry doesn't end up crappy, he is one of my favorite characters, as well.

Totally curious about the fairy encounter that Andy had!
    SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

Anyway, I thought I'd dig this old thread up and see if there are any other fans out there who want to chat about it. I started the books, but didn't get very far because I had to return them to the friend who loaned them to me. I'll get them read, eventually.

I was surprised but kinda relieved at the character that Sookie shot, and am glad you became a fan of the show. There are some scenes that are somewhat sexual, but overall, there's not that much! Interesting to see what will happen when the next season begins.

Yeah, it toned down a lot, even just in the second season, which I was grateful for. And, again . . . most people I know wish I was a bit more prudish haha . . . but I just don't like graphic sex scenes in "regular" shows or movies. They even do much more subtle things, like the girl covering her breasts with her hands or something, which is cool.

I just started to watch this a little while ago. We just started the third season. So far I'm not getting into this season as much as I did the first 2. I'm hoping it picks up cause I heard the fourth season is really good.
