    Dog days - Thursdays 223

WOOOOO BARK BARK. Now most know that "the dog days of summer" are actually referring to the allignment of the stars in the sky during August (not Hollywood Blvd "stars" ) so let's think of some sort of starry starry night/stardust drink. hmmmmm, suggestions? While you put your thinking caps on I'll try to sweep up a bit and wipe off the sketty noodles that have been flung around (durn you monkey boy ).

Can I pass on the Pan galactic gargle blaster and just hit me in the head with a gold brick wrapped in lemon?

    How about Goldschlager shots?

Well, thinking hats, drinking hats, it's all the same right? I'll have to
mull over these drink selections. They all sound a bit strong for me.

Not in New Zealand, it's not! Richard very kindly considers the whole planet when he opens the bar. Or Laurie. Or whoever.

I much prefer the drinking theme, but according to The Old Farmer's Almanac, the dog days of summer actually mean this -

The dog days are the hottest and most unhealthy days of the year. This period is traditionally the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11.

So we might as well drink them away. My choice is a Long Island Iced Tea.

Yup, it's Wednesday, or Hump Day as it's often called around here, however Thursday's has been known to open as early as Tuesday but usually opens on Wednesdays as we can't wait to start carousing!

That said, I'll have whatever the bartender is pouring and a platterful of something for lunch

"Dog Days" as mentioned when I opened the thread relate to the stars, specifically: The brightest of the stars in Canis Major (the big dog) is Sirius, which also happens to be the brightest star in the night sky. In fact, it is so bright that the ancient Romans thought that the earth received heat from it. Look for it in the southern sky (viewed from northern latitudes) during January.

In the summer, however, Sirius, the “dog star,” rises and sets with the sun. During late July Sirius is in conjunction with the sun, and the ancients believed that its heat added to the heat of the sun, creating a stretch of hot and sultry weather. They named this period of time, from 20 days before the conjunction to 20 days after, “dog days” after the dog star.

Boy, that Iced Tea looks devine but I hear they pack a real wallop. I think I'll just have a cooling white wine spritzer *wine whine wine skooly ooly*

I've already sampled the menu, but now I need the beverage. That Long Island Ice Tea sounds good.

Dad I want to go to Thursday's and play with the orange kitty
