    Best Brand Of Dishwasher?

Hi, I currently have a Kenmore dishwasher and it's about 12 years old. I live in a condo complex and I'm on the second floor. A man just bought the unit below me and he's not living their yet but his painter noticed that some water was leaking out of the light above his kitchen sink. I ran the dishwasher yesterday morning and we figured out that this is what's causing the problem.

I've decided to just go ahead and get a new one because it's not working as well as it should be. I also have very hard water and I need one that has a water heat setting on it. I'm hoping to be able to get one that's on sale so hopefully with Labor Day coming up I'll be able to get one for a good price. So what's the best brand of dishwasher out there? Thanks in advance.

We had to replace a dishwasher last year. The man at Lowe's said that they have the least amount of repair calls on Whirlpool and Maytag. We bought a Whirlpool and so did my brother and his family and another friend and her husband. Stay away from the Frigidaire brand. The way they are constructed makes them clog up in the bottom after awhile.and then food particles get stuck to your dishes. I'm only talking about dishwashers in the normal person's price range. I know some people that have the Bosch brand and really like it. But they are expensive.

Okay, thanks. My parents get Consumers Reports and I think that they have an issue that rates dishwashers so I'm also going to look at this.

Well both the Consumer's Report 2008 Buying Guide and Consumer Report March 2008 Magazine say that Kenmore by Sears model #1374(2) is rated #1 and that it's the best buy and it says that it's $650.

The magazine says that for excellent cleaning and quiet operation both of these are CR Best Buys:
    1- Kenmore(Sears) 1374(2)-$650
    10-Bosch SHE33MO(2)UC- $540
Both are energy-efficient. The Kenmore has targeted spray jets. The Bosch has a stainless-steel tub and a slightly shorter cycle time,115 minutes vs. 125for the Kenmore. You'll occasionally have to clean the Bosch's filter by hand.

If price is more important than quiet:
    7-Whirlpool DU1055XTS(0)-$350
    12-Kenmore(Sears)1373(2)-$500
    21-Whirlpool DU1100XTP(0)-$450
All offer excellent cleaning but the Whirpool (7) is a bit more basic.

Does any one have any of these models? If so how are they? Like I said before I also have to have one that has a water heat setting.

We just got a new Frigidaire a couple of months ago and I could not be happier with it. It has the food disposal in the bottom that prevents clogging. It is stainless still, quite pretty, I think, and it was in the $500 range. I don't know about the hard water issue, though, Tracey. Not a problem I have encountered. We were about to pay $200 more for a Kitchen Aid with the same features, then saw the Frigidaire, which was exactly the same, just less expensive.

I have a GE that I bought from Best Buy almost over 8 1/2 years ago. I did have to have a hose replaced last year, but it still looks and cleans like new. As a matter of fact I still think of it as new (well, it is my newest appliance). I was house sitting for my neighbor earlier this year and I noticed that she had recently purchased the same dishwasher that I have. I really do like it for space, settings, and ease of use.

I just went to the library last week and copied the 4 pages of the Consumer Reports article. Will be getting a new dishwasher as part of the kitchen remodel. I really suggest you get a copy as well.

I don't have the hard water issue.

I was surprised how things had changed from just 5.5 years ago, when I bought the new dishwasher for Dad's house!

After looking at several stores today, I decided to buy a Maytag MDBH955AWB from Home Depot. Here's the link about it: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...9&ddkey=Search.

Home Depot also had the best delivery, installation, haul away price too and it's also on sale for 10% off. I'm going to get it in black. I haven't ordered it yet but will do it later today. The appliance specialist was also very nice and very informative. He even printed out copies of 3 different models so that I could take these with me to other stores to compare. This model also had some very good reviews from regular customers so I think that it should be a great dishwasher.

Thanks again everyone for replying to this thread.
