    A Dog Rescue in Progress

So let me tell you about my day...I got up this morning...oh wait I'll skip ahead...
( I'm gonna parahrase to keep a long story from being even longer...)

The phone rings at 10am this morning and it is PT's own Mugsy. "Where's Marietta, Ohio" she wants to know. " I think around Columbus", I reply. Why? Well, there is a Dalmation down there that is going to be PTS if no one takes him by 4pm today, and I know you want a spotty dog and...send me the email I say...

Hello, my name is Jessica and I've currently been working at our local
shelter for 1 year. We have a Dalmatian at our shelter that I'm really tying
to find someone or rescue to take. The reason for this is because we are a
kill shelter and it is very hard to adopt that specific breed out. His name
is Spot. He knows basic commands such as sit, shake, lay, heal and roll
over. He is already neutered and up to date on this years shots. I've never
really been attached to a Dalmatian before, but theirs just something about
this one. He was brought into our shelter as an owner surrender. I wasn't
attached to him at first, but then he grew on me. He has this way of making
me pet him before another dog. I didn't realize how attached I was until his
time came to be put down. I went back knowing he was going to be put down
and held his hand and started crying. I looked into his eyes and It was like
he knew what was going on. See I'm one of the holders for EU. I don't like
to do it, but I just think they are going to a better place. But I couldn't
do it for him. I know their is a good family out their for him. My boss
walked by and hugged me and told me I could go ahead and feed him. I was so
excited I started crying even more. I've never been that way towards a dog
and she knows it. I think that's why she let me have a second chance on
finding him a home. The biggest problem is people don't even look at our
Dalmatians. They think they are all aggressive. That's why I'm writing you
in hope that you guys might be able to help me, or know of someone that can.
I want to get him out of their, but I don't know of anyone that can take
him. I live in an apartment with my aunt and can only have 1 dog. Which I
already have. I don't mean to seem so sappy, but I don't know what else to
do. If you cannot help me I will understand. You cannot save all the
dogs/cats. It will just make me feel better knowing I tried every possible
way to find him a home if we do end up putting him down. If you can help
please email me back ASAP or you can call our shelter tom. between 10:00 and
4:00. Thank you for your time. And again I don't mean to seem to sappy. I've
    attached his picture below.
    Thank you
Humane Society of the Ohio Valley

So we chat awhile and hang up.

She calls back about around 11am. Did you see his picture? Yeah. Shouldn't have looked. Me either. What are we going do? Don't know....says he doesn't like kids. You don't have kids, she says. I know, but I have nephews and we want kids before too long. Okay...well we'll contact some ppl see what happens.

It's noon. Molly calls agin. She has talked to Jessica...Spot does like kids, he is trained, get along well wth other dogs, etc, etc, etc. Now I'm late for dance. I'll think I tell her, and call you later.

2pm...we finally get a break at dance. I talke to Ralph. ASlong as you are okay with getting him into a no-kill slhleter if our girls don't get along with him, Let's get him he says. Yeah I say! So, I make arrangemts and I'm going to head tonight. I come home get the girls, get on the highway and BAM! There goes the front tire! AAAHHHH!!! OKay, it is now 4 pm, but I have talked to Jessica earier and she saysif I can't make it today them keep him throught the weekend. So I call my parents (who were going with me) ASk them to call the Shelter, and get Jessica's phone # for me. I have a call into her to make arrangements to go get Spot tomorrow. Yeah!!! A Spotty Dog is saved!!!

Please keep us in your thoughts as we make this 4 hr (each way) drive tommorrow (NO MORE FLATS!!!) and that he will be a good match for my girls!!!

    Thanks!
    Amy

PS...I'm not sure I like the name "Spot" Any suggestions?

Spot should be named Miracle, because that is what I just got out of the story I just read.
Best of luck. Have a safe trip.

I will say that it's been a long eventful day in Toledo, Marietta, and Fort Wayne. I talked to Jessica about as many times as I did Amy (probably more) and we got a back up plan in case Amy didn't take him and found that the Cobb Humane Society in New Haven, IN would take him if I went and got him (which I volunteered to do) and then BAM! Amy and Ralph come through! Yeah for you Amy and Ralph!! I hope the tire holds out tomorrow and one of call the other when we get home. Mike and I are doing a transport tomorrow for Blaze the mini GSD and are taking her to her forever home in Kalamazoo, MI.

Keep us posted about tomorrow, Amy. Drive carefully, both of you (Molly and Mike too).

He doesn't look like a Dal to me either, but that doesn't matter. Its his big heart that matters

Hmm.. names. I think you should stick with an "S" or "C" sounding name to go along with your girls.
