Mitzi Did Good at the White Coats Today

Mitzi had her "annual" vet appointment today, complete with her FVRCP vaccine. The vet was pleased, and so was I, that Mitzi has finally managed to lose some of her pudge - she's down to 10.5 lbs. (from 11.3 last year) and got a clean bill of health. YIPPEE!

I surprised her from a nap and quickly swept her into her carrier, so getting her there wasn't a problem. The vet is a short block from my house. Mitzi was SO scared! Usually she doesn't like being held, but once we got into the examining room and I got her out of her carrier, she huddled in my arms, burying her little face under my arm like a scared toddler and wouldn't budge! It was SO cute. When the vet was examining her, she was purring so loudly that the vet couldn't hear her heart! Mishi does that too - why do they purr when they're obviously terrified?

Anyway, she's home, sleeping it off. I double checked Mishi's records and talked to the vet and she agreed that he wouldn't need to come in for his shots until next April as he's been through enough lately and he is an indoor kitty. She said he will be okay getting his vaccines every other year. He seems to have gotten over whatever it was that was blocking him a couple of weeks ago so I think we have two healthy cats here for once. I just hope they stay that way.

What wonderful news for both your furkids.

I've read somewhere that some cats purr to calm themselves. That makes sense for some of the places/situations I've found my furkids purring in...

This is great news!!! I'm so glad to hear that both of your furkids are healthy. Now hopefully they'll continue to be healthy and happy for many more years to come.

    Congratulations!

Question--how did you get her to lose weight? Do the 'weight control' foods in the supermarket really work?
    Thanks for all your help,
    C

I put her on a kitty "diet." Switched both of them to twice-daily feedings instead of free-feeding and put her on a reduced calorie food. First it was Pet Gold light, then Natural Balance light which she grew to hate and now she's on Royal Canin light which she seems to love. I don't buy the grocery store brands for my kitties. I also try to spend some time with her each day playing and encouraging her to run and jump. It didn't happen overnight! It's taken her a little over 7 months to lose half a pound. She's still "fluffy" (she IS a long-haired cat, after all ). I suspect my little Mitzi will always be a bit round, but that's what makes her SO cute and cuddly.

Clever Mitzi, losing half a pound!

Daisy cuddles in to me at the vet as well. I absolutely love it! Makes me feel a bit guilty, because she is SO scared.
