    Merry Christmas, Killi & Shi

    Dear Killian and Shiloh,

This has been the first Christmas without you (or any dog since 1974). To be honest, I did not want to celebrate Christmas this year. I am too sad. I did not decorate at all. My husband put up the tree, but I did not decorate it.

There were presents for everyone, but none for you, Dear Ones. We always enjoyed watching you two tear open your presents. You always loved to do that. How hard it was this year! So very hard.

You were with me, though. As I was wrapping gifts ..........a few German Shepherd hairs showed up!!!! I know that you two were lovingly called
"German Shedders", but that was all vacuumed up long ago. It's been almost two months since I have had the pleasure of any dog hair all over me. I take it as a sign that you both are still with me in spirit and you wanted me to know that.

So, dear Killian and Shiloh, thank you for the precious Christmas gift, the memory of your undying love and devotion that will be with me forever.

    Love forever and ever,
    Til we meet again.

    Mom

Oh my gosh...LES going on here... This Christmas must have been so hard for you. Yes indeed, those hairs were a sign......they have not left you and never will.

    Big {{{hugs}}} you.

Oh, dearest Sue.... I don't really know what to say...
I'm sure that this christmas was sooooo hard for you, and your hubby.
I agree that the dog hair was a sign, that they are still with you.

I found this poem awhile back and I thought that I would share it with you. It gave me much comfort when it was my first christmas with out my boy Hugo.
    Christmas Without My Dog
    The tree is all trimmed
    The gifts are all wrapped
    The hymns are all sung,
    And the travel plans mapped

    And still there’s a sadness
    That lies in your heart,
For a dog that was lost
    And a love now apart

    A stocking is missing,
    With toys and a treat.
    A lap is now empty,
    A space at your feet.

    Yet remember this season
    God’s small gift to you,
    Wonderful memories
    To treasure life through

Sue, I think of your Killian and Shiloh often, and of course they come to mind immediately whenever I see a GSD. I only hope you will not grieve too hard and too long. You know they wouldn't want that and if they could come back, their mission would be to cheer you up. Just as you wanted the very best for them, they want the very best for you.

Thank you, Everyone, so very much.
I just can't seem to accept Shiloh's swift illness and death. I understood Killian's passing, he went through so very much....but Shiloh should still be right here next to me, sleeping on my bed at night, going for walks.......... She should have been with me for at least 3 more years........... She was the one who was the rock, the solid one, the healthy one....
    It still hurts.

Thank you all, you have been wonderful throughout everything.
    Hugs.

Sue, I hope it doesn't bother you me bringing this thread back up but I missed it and I just wanted to say a couple things to you about that dog hair you found.
Last year I found a piece of Angus's hair on a shirt that I hadn't wore since before his death and wow, it's just unreal how one single strand of hair can make you feel. I still have that hair. I stuck it to a piece of tape and it's right here next to the computer (OK, maybe I'm a little silly but I don't care).

I think it's their way of saying "Hey mom, I'm still here with you even though you can't see me".
